Fracture, 2005-2006
In Fall of 2005, GROUP was an AIRspace Artist-in-Residence at the Jon Sims Center for the Arts. GROUP produced its new show, Fracture, during the five-month residency. Fracture investigates families of origin and families of choice. The show looks at how being unacceptable by societal and family norms affects access to safety, love, and connection. The show uses the dynamics of race, culture, language, gender norms, and sexuality to highlight the risks and struggles for personal safety and fulfillment within family expectations. True to GROUP’s style, Fracture uses text, movement, dance, and song to provide an intimate and intriguing portrayal of these personal experiences.
Performers: Patricia West-Sotelo, Aja Randell, Frances Sedayao, Javier Cordoba, Alejandra Guanipa, as well as co-directors/choreographers Oscar Manuel Trujillo and Jason Torres Hancock.
