Contemplative Dance Class

A class combining Buddhist meditation with personal and group movement. Contemplative dance was developed by Barbara Dilley at Naropa University in Boulder, CO. The practice seeks to connect mindfulness approaches to movement exploration and dance expression. The form begins with 20-minute sitting meditation then moves into personal movement for 15 minutes then returning to 20-minutes of sitting meditation and ending with an open movement field to connect with others in the space for 20-minutes.

Voice Class

A voice class influenced by Roy Hart Voice Technique. Come explore your voice in a supportive, safe, and open field to hear your true voice. This class draws from fundamentals of Roy Hart Voice Technique to acknowledge the voice in its full range of authentic expression. Whether you are an actor seeking continued exploration of your vocal technique, a mover seeking to use the voice as a full expression of the body, or a business person wanting confidence in vocal support, this class will provide tools and opportunities to discover your expanding voice.

Viewpoints

A workshop focused on exploring The Viewpoints as devised by Mary Overlie and expanded upon by Anne Bogart and SITI Company. The Viewpoints is a layered approach to exploring theatrical and dance forms considering key concepts of time, space, shape, emotion, movement, and story…and maybe two others. Students will engage these Viewpoints singularly and collectively to create performance improvisations that can lead to later work.

Movement Class

Explore your body’s expressivity and grounding in this layered movement class. Drawing from influences of Body-Mind CenteringÒ, Developmental Technique, Release Dance Technique, and The Viewpoints, this class will help you find deeper support in your connection to space, self, and other.

Red Square Practice

Created by Barbara Dilley at Naropa University, Red Square practice shapes space with a sacred demarcation of performance potential. Within a square of red yarn laid in the studio, students are allowed the possibility of framing, contextualizing, re-contextualizing, and honoring the spontaneity of form and expression through the manipulation of 5 objects and other classmates. Ideal for directors, choreographers, devisors, and visual artists.
